Interesting facts about Sonu Nigam the most versatile Indian singer.

Sonu Nigam was born on 30 July 1973 in the city of Faridabad, Hariyana. He is a music producer/director, singer and an actor.

His father name is Agam Kumar Nigam and Mother name is Shobha Nigam.

His son name is Neevan Nigam and his wife name is Madhurima Nigam. 

Sonu Nigam was just 4 years old when he first sang at the stage. He sang, “Kya hua tera wada song” along with his father.

He would sing at the weeding parties and different ceremony with his father.

Sonu is a trained classical musician and was trained by the great Ustad Gulam Mustafa Khan.

He had changed his surname to Niigam because of his belief in Numerology but later again changed it to Nigam.

Mr. Nigam came to Mumbai at the age of 19 along with his father to focus on his singing career and hoping to get a chance to sing in Bollywood movies. While struggling in Mumbai Sonu use to sing in different ceremonies and parties and lounges to support his livelihood.

He is also known as the king or master of regional languages. He has sang in Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Nepali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telegu, Bhojpuri, Urdu, Marathi, English. Singer Sonu can sing in all these languages with clear pronunciation.

Sonu Nigam almost got the chance to sing the super-hit song “Ek Ladki ko dekha toh Aisa laga”. The song was sang by the great Kumar Sanu but he almost missed the chance to sing the song by not being present in the studio at time. But Kumar Sanu arrived at the given time, when the music director Rahul Dev Burman warned him to replace if he didn’t arrive within an hour.

The first album of Sonu Nigam, “Kisamat”, released by the Music label Magma sound was a huge success. The music label Magma then signed Sonu for next album titled “Sanskar” after the Kismat album success.

However, he got a big breakthrough in Bollywood when T-series signed him and released the album Rafi ki Yaaden. This album was a super hit as well as the most sold album of that year.

The first Bollywood song he sang was for the movie Janam but unfortunately  the movie never got release. Then the owner of the label T-series Gulshan Kumar again offered him to sing a song in the movie Beewafa Sanam. 

He sang 4 song in this movie named ‘Mera Dil Gaya’, ‘Jab utha mera janaza’, ‘Toone dil ka rakibo sang’, ‘Sab Maya hai’. This movie changed the life of Sonu Nigam, the songs were hit and he never had to look back again. 

Sonu Nigam won his first Filmfare award at the year 1999. He won the award for the song Ishq Bina from the movie “Taal”. The song was composed by none other than AR Rahman.

He won his first national award in the year 2003 for the title song “Kal ho Na Ho” from the movie Kal ho na ho.

His first debut movie was on the year 1983 and the movie name was Beetab. Later worked as a lead actor in the movie Love in Nepal and Spotless, Jani Dushman. He has also done guest appearance in some movies such as: Pyaara Dushman, Kash aap hamare hote, Navra Maza Navsacha, and Warning.

He has also worked as an RJ (Radio Jockey). He had his own show in the Radio City 91.1 channel called ,“Life ki dhun with Sonu Nigam”. In this show he used to call other Musicians, Singers and use to talk about their life.

He has done voice-over for many animated movies such as “Aladin” and “Rio”. He even sang for the animated movie Aladin which was aired on Disney Channel India.

The title track of the movie “Singh saab the great” was composed by Sonu Nigam.

He has recorded song with the Hollywood Musicians Jay Sean, David Guetta, and Britney Spears. He sang in the remix version of I wanna go by Britney Spears. Sonu had also collaborated with the DJ/Producer Avicii for the Indian labels but unfortunately this won’t be possible since Avicii is no longer with us.

Mr. Nigam is also planning to release his English album soon. The name of the album are “Spirit Unfolding” and “Time Travel”.

Sonu Nigam has his own Music Label launched on his birth date 30 July 2020 named “I believe in Music” and ‘Rudhrashtakam’ was the first track released under this label.

Talking about salary of Sonu Nigam, he charges 40 lakhs for recording one song whereas for live shows he charges 40lakhs rupees in India where as 1.5 crore for show outside India.

Sonu charges 50 lakhs for hosting a reality show.

His net worth is  400 crore rupees or 50 Million US Dollar. (50 million USD)
